چکیده

We develop a new variational formulation of the inverse Stefan problem, where information on the heat flux on the fixed boundary is missing and must be found along with the temperature and free boundary. We employ optimal control framework, where boundary heat flux and free boundary are components of the control vector, and optimality criteria consists of the minimization of the sum of L2-norm declinations from the available measurement of the temperature flux on the fixed boundary and available information on the phase transition temperature on the free boundary. This approach allows one to tackle situations when the phase transition temperature is not known explicitly, and is available through measurement with possible error. It also allows for the development of iterative numerical methods of least computational cost due to the fact that for every given control vector, the parabolic PDE is solved in a fixed region instead of full free boundary problem. We prove well-posedness in Sobolev spaces framework and convergence of discrete optimal control problems to the original problem both with respect to cost functional and control. 1. VARIATIONAL DISCRETIZATION AND MIXED METHODS FOR SEMILINEAR PARABOLIC OPTIMAL CONTROL PROBLEMS WITH INTEGRAL CONSTRAINT

The aim of this work is to investigate the variational discretization and mixed finite element methods for optimal control problem governed by semi linear parabolic equations with integral constraint. The state and co-state are approximated by the lowest order Raviart-Thomas mixed finite element spaces and the control is not discreted. Optimal error estimates in L2 are established for the state...

A Collocation Method with Modified Equilibrium on Line Method for Imposition of Neumann and Robin Boundary Conditions in Acoustics (TECHNICAL NOTE)

A collocation method with the modified equilibrium on line method (ELM) forimposition of Neumann and Robin boundary conditions is presented for solving the two-dimensionalacoustical problems. In the modified ELM, the governing equations are integrated over the lines onthe Neumann (Robin) boundary instead of the Neumann (Robin) boundary condition equations. Inother words, integration domains are...

An optimal analytical method for nonlinear boundary value problems based on method of variation of parameter

In this paper, the authors present a modified convergent analytic algorithm for the solution of nonlinear boundary value problems by means of a variable parameter method and briefly, the method is called optimal variable parameter method. This method, based on the embedding of a parameter and an auxiliary operator, provides a computational advantage for the convergence of the approximate soluti...

An ${cal O}(h^{8})$ optimal B-spline collocation for solving higher order boundary value problems

As we know the approximation solution of seventh order two points boundary value problems based on B-spline of degree eight has only ${cal O}(h^{2})$ accuracy and this approximation is non-optimal. In this work, we obtain an optimal spline collocation method for solving the general nonlinear seventh order two points boundary value problems. The ${cal O}(h^{8})$ convergence analysis, mainly base...
